Baby food recall: Plum Organics recalls pouch food for possible Botulism contamination

Plum Organics is recalling its apple- and carrot-flavored baby food for fear of botulism poisoning. The California-based company announced the recall Tuesday morning, saying the product did not meet FDA requirements.

Botulism is a rare, serious paralytic illness. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

The baby food is sold in Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores. The recalled product is 4.22-ounce pouches, with a "best by" date of May 21, 2010. The UPC is 890180001221.

Traveling during the second trimester

Here are a few tips to keep yourself (and baby!) safe and comfy on the road and in the skies.

Move it!
Circulation is the key -- be sure to keep moving. Get up and walk around once an hour, and wiggle or massage your legs every few minutes while seated. (Same goes for anytime you’re seated for an extended period throughout your pregnancy.) Keeping the blood flowing reduces risk of varicose veins, thrombosis (blood clots) and swollen feet and ankles.

Buckle low
Wear your seatbelt across the thighs and below the belly, where it's safest and most comfortable.

Kick up your heels
Propping your feet up also helps blood flow -- try using a carry-on item or available seat.

Drink up
Avoid travel-induced dehydration and weariness by drinking lots of non-caffeinated fluids.

Fly up front
To stay comfortable, request an aisle seat on the front half of the plane. This will give you a smoother ride, and make it easier to get up and walk around.

Get comfy
Try a back-support cushion or pillow. When traveling by car, push your seat back as far as possible to get more leg room.

Planning a baby shower? Here are some hints...

Time it right
Best time for a baby shower? Somewhere in the last trimester. Allow a few weeks' cushion from the due date -- mom's water breaking during cake and coffee might make a great story, but not so much a great party. Having the shower too early, though (within the first half of pregnancy or so) could be -- quite literally -- counting eggs before they're hatched.

Plan ahead
Get the invites out at least six weeks ahead of time. Don't forget to include directions and your phone number or e-mail.

Be creative
Themes are great (think tea party, the nursery's decor, or baby brunch), but if the thought makes you squirm, try simply picking a color or style of food to plan the party around.

Great gifts
This starts with the registry, of course -- the best gift is always one that's wanted. It's also fun to ask each guest to bring a smaller, themed present -- favorite childhood book, homemade frozen dinner, IOU for future babysitting or chore help, etc.

Make it fun
Even if an elaborate themed party seems like too much work (or too corny), it's a good idea to plan some kind of activity. Try setting up a mini-spa with manis, pedis and massages. Or, if you're good with thread and a thimble, send each guest a quilt square along with their invitation, ask them to personalize it and bring to the party, and then sew them all together to make a keepsake quilt for the mom-to-be.
